Very snazzy, Barbara! It took a while to load, though, and clicking on the book-jacket took me to http://www.jpowered.com which probably wasn't what you intended.

Nice applet....where'd you get it? (The fade, that is)

Oh, the menu bar is a table, not an applet

Did your browser crash? That's what concerns me, with any java script. And yes, it's a slow loader, because I have so many graphics in the "fader" script. I may have to take some of them out -- which kind of defeats the point of having all my book covers rotating on the main page.

The link to jpowered.com is built into the script -- the price of a "free" javascript. I may cheat and delete it. The content of my page won't change much; I just want a different look.

No problem with my browser. It looks good, Barbara.

The applet, whatever it was, took forever to load, and I don't know if it did anything or not. What was it supposed to do? I closed my eyes, put my head in my hands, and dozed off for a few seconds, and missed whatever it was supposed to do.

Pete, I suspect your browser is the acid test. If it didn't crash, then the applet's safe.

The applet is a "fader"; one book cover fades into another.

While Netscape is by no means perfect, it usually suffices. It gets testy about extreme Java scripts, I believe.

The "fader" applet worked as advertised, by the way.

One source I use for applets doesn't
"charge" anything, but asks that you make a donation to a children's charity in Britain. Needless to say, I give him a link, too.

It's cute, but it also took over a minute to download...

On my Mac Netscape 4.76, I get the title and some menu-type choices at the top, then my message bar at the bottom says something like "SirFadeFree cannot load; object cannot be found." (Can't vouch for details, it flashes off as soon as I move the mouse.) And nothing more happens.

Hmm, I wonder what "object" that is? It can't be the java applet (although it sounds like that), because the applet is part of the html page, not a separate "object". Perhaps your browser couldn't reach the .class file at jpowered.com that's needed to run the thing.

I just loaded the page, and the fader ran as far as Bibblings (about 7 or 8 covers) and then stopped. Clicking on the cover did nothing. It looks as if I'm going to have to go shopping for a new applet.

Dang.

I just tried it again, this time from home (slowish connexion, USA citizens up and surfing), and, though it took some time to load all the images before actually doing anything, it worked its way round all 22 of them with no problem.

In Nashville using the computr that used to be my main one....50000 bps connection instead of cable, MSIE 5.0

Page came up immediately, Fare Play loaded almost at once...other covers soon after. However, SOMETHING crashed the browser on the first try. It seems to be okay now, though.

and it's not "cute" it's "cool" and I want the applet or script as the case may be!

(If it's a script, I may have it filed away somewhere!)

This does not bode well.

But if you still want the applet, Kay, I can just copy my code and send it to you; you'd need to substitute your own graphics for mine. If you feel like living dangerously.

::sigh::

Older version of Netscape 4.04....no problems, but java does not load at all although it is enabled.....no java, no crash.
