pretty much describes the Roanoke Symphonys program today (that's what the program called it) least the second half after the Brahmn third which was the opener.

Primarily an opera conductor (and on the fast track at the Met) Steven White really got some great stuff out of the RSO on Neilsen's Helios Overture and a quartet of pieces from "The Planets" - Mars, Mercury, Uranus and Jupiter - with The opening of Also Sprach Zorasthustra for an encore.

It's a big piece for the relatively intimate Shaftman Hall (900+seats)...and next week Steven will be conducting his lovely wife Elizabeth Futral in a special program for Mother's Day...should be interesting.
