Friends, gang-buddies. It's part of a slang Anthony Burgess created for A Clockwork Orange. Take a look at a scene from the movie version where Alex feels a need to discipline his troops:

Very, ahem, distinctive costumes, wouldn't you say? They showed up again, about 40 years later, in Caprica.

Right, I remember them. I don't watch Caprica. Was it like a hommage?

Maybe. If this is their only appearance, it might merely be instant recognition/borrowed glory. If they're recurring cast...well, let's see if they are. Besides, we all know what Harlan Ellison said about homage.

"Homage is French for rip-off."

Would you believe there's going to be another BSG spin-off? It will be about young Will/Bill Adama, fresh out of the academy and in charge of a new ship (!) in the middle of the first war with the Cylons. Scheduled for late next year or early 2012.

Caprica has been cancelled. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Well, I'm not terribly upset.

I've watched a couple of SG: Universe episodes that were surprisingly good. I still haven't found the "center" of this show, assuming there is one. Its only relation to SG1 is the use of the gate; there's none of the whimsy of some of the RDA episodes, and it lacks the strong personalities that made the earlier series work. On the other hand, Universe has a more adult look and the plots don't have alien races out to conquer the universe; it leaves those people out there pretty much on their own. It's modeled more after BSG than its namesake series.

They're obviously going for the ensemble effect of BSG. But that show had an iron man holding the ensemble together. Young is no Adama, he's just an equal partner in the ensemble. Not the actor's fault, the role is just written that way.

Maybe Rush is meant to be the glue holding them together. But if Robert Carlyle gets any scruffier, he's going to turn into a pile of dandruff.
