As for the reason for the lack of nominations: Why, just for instance, did no one connected with (so far as I know) either Cookie's Fortune or Tea with Mussolini, two of the best films of 1999, get nominated for anything by the MPAAS?

In the former, at the very least, Glenn Close should have been nominated for a Best Actress (and, you will recall, she has NEVER won even when she was nominated)...I'd have nominated Pat Neal for supporting actress, as well.

In TWM, Plowright, Smith and Cher all did excellent work and got nothing.

I can't explain it....I'm sure there are other examples of such "oversights" in every endeavour.
